CENTRAL HEATING INFORMATION COUNCIL - HEAD FOR THE INTERNET FOR DOMESTIC HEATING INFORMATION
log on to www.centralheating.co.uk for answers to your questions

Increasing numbers of people in the UK want to know more about their heating and hot water systems. It's traditionally something you left to your plumber or heating installer, and took his advice 100%, but there's been an upsurge in interest from homeowners wanting to know what the options are and how they can save money!

Perhaps there has been a realisation that investment in a new central heating system or boiler is a major expense and choosing the right system can both reduce your heating bills and make a contribution to reducing emissions of harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

The Central Heating Information Council has for many years been providing information for consumers and its web site has seen a massive increase in 'hits' in the past year, suggesting that the information it provides is being helpful to both people working in the domestic heating sector and to homeowners. You can find it at www.centralheating.co.uk

The site helps you to get the best from your central heating system and offers advice on what to do when it goes wrong. There is contact detail information for manufacturers of boilers and other components and you can order or download literature online, both for generic information and specific company brochures.

Perhaps the most useful feature on the web site is the ability for you to track down a competent plumber or heating installer in your area simply by clicking on 'Find an Installer'
and entering your postcode. For most areas of the UK, a list of three or four installers operating in your area will come up on screen for you to approach.

In addition there is masses of information on different fuel types - including the average annual costs of heating different sizes of homes with each - explanations of the different types of boiler and heating systems you can have in your home, information about central heating controls and about radiators.

There's a list of frequently asked questions covering most aspects of central heating which may well provide the answer your seeking very simply. And there's a list of useful contact numbers that allow you to get in touch with trade and professional bodies and other organisations like CORGI, OFTEC, the Energy Saving Trust and many, many more.

The web site also introduces you to the Benonmark initiative, the quality mark of the domestic heating industry. It explains why you should ask your plumber or heating installer whether or not he is working to Benchmark standards. If he's not, the Central Heating Information Council thinks you should think very carefully before letting him into your home to work on your central heating system.

Log on today - you'll find out central heating is far more interesting than you thought!
