Special NHIC membership rate for Local Authorities and Housing Associations.

With the government’s ongoing pressure to meet the Kyoto conference commitment on reducing CO2 emission levels, there is even greater emphasis on home improvements to help ensure the existing housing stock rises to the challenge. Consequently, several local authorities and housing associations have expressed interest in joining the National Home Improvement Council in order to take advantage of the open forum that is provided by the council to share relevant ideas, techniques and advice.

As a result a special membership category has been established for the social housing sector, which costs less than £750 a year, but reaps all the benefits of the NHIC’s widely respected aims and objectives.

Graham Ponting, the NHIC’s director, says, “Over the past few months in particular, it has become more and more apparent that many local authorities and housing associations want to add their voice and experience to the NHIC’s already well established and highly successful contribution to raising the home improvement profile.”

“We offer a unique, collective opportunity for everyone involved with the social housing sector to add a powerful voice to the growing argument for improving our environment and bringing older properties up to standard and back into the housing arena.”

“Obviously we hope that many housing authorities throughout the UK will take advantage of the benefits that our special new membership arrangements will provide.”

The NHIC primary objectives are to act as a catalyst for public sector housing bodies to stimulate modernisation of the housing stock and to continually underline the importance of directing housing policies and public funding towards home improvement. It also aims to encourage private investment in the housing sector and to uphold the improvement of standards in both the public and private housing sectors.
