There are around 26million homes in the UK and between them they generate about 35% of the carbon gases in this country. These gases are very bad for our environment and cause us to spend and waste a lot of money on heating and hot water for our homes.

The Green Deal system aims to encourage people to improve their homes to the highest possible energy efficient standard and to finance the work recommended by an accredited Adviser and undertaken by an accredited Installer. The improvement work aims to greatly reduce running costs, raise standards, generate greater efficiency and, overall, make the world a far better place for all of us to live in!

Green Deal claims to provide an ‘innovative’ financing solution allowing you to pay back costs through your energy bills. So it’s not a conventional loan since Government says that the bill-payer is not liable for the full capital costs of energy efficient home improvements!

You meet only the charges due while you are the bill-payer!

This all sounds hunky-dory and deserves a closer look because it could just help provide you with one method of financing the way you improve your home.

WHAT'S WHAT what's what

It could cost over £80,000 to bring, for instance, the average (whatever that is) semi-detached house up to a sufficiently high energy efficiency standard. So it’s not going to be cheap! There are, of course, various ‘prerequisites’ for all Green Deal plans.

For instance there is a ‘golden rule’ which means that ‘the expected savings must be equal to or greater than the energy costs! And the measures installed ‘must have been recommended for the property by an accredited, objective adviser who has carried out an assessment.’

There are several other ‘prerequisites’ that you should know and read about.

Most important of all, it’s essential that you use an accredited trades person in conjunction with Green Deal. Then you can enjoy total peace of mind that your improvements are being carried out to the highest specification and are backed by a positive guarantee or warrantee.
