Very special opportunities for members
Regularly held special NHIC Members’ forums provide a great opportunity for Members’ to listen to and question carefully chosen ideas and comments from a range of interesting guest personalities. With a free buffet lunch, these occasions always provide a unique opportunity for networking at the highest possible level.
NHIC is taking a positive lead in the Green Deal ‘level playfield’ deliberations and debate, specifically in the context of SMEs (small and medium enterprises) and the ‘big’ Providers, such as British Gas, Kingfisher, Homebase, Tesco and so on.
Energy efficiency and water conservation are extremely important ingredients of all NHIC’s activities. It’s Members work closely with several Parliamentary committees to help develop new initiatives and move them forward to become priority issues.
Fuel poverty is high on the agenda as are home energy efficiency and fuel safety.
Also, NHIC Members are extremely prolific in working towards urgently reducing or eliminating VAT on nation wide home improvements and consequently helping to remove rogue traders.
In addition, NHIC essential in the campaign to get the British construction industry back to work!
Good PR
One of the NHIC’s most popular and respected ‘services’ are the twice-yearly press packs that are electronically mailed to every editor in the weekly local and regional press and to TV and radio stations.
They contain well over a dozen specially written topical editorials detailing the very latest cost saving, carbon reducing home improvement materials and methods.
The same press packs also contain important contributions and illustrations from many NHIC Member companies and associations.
Influence
NHIC is often invited to provide knowledgeable participants on appropriate committees. It also organises Parliamentary briefings and lunches when Members and their guests get the opportunity to raise specific issues and debate them with MPs and Lords.
Gain momentum with the NHIC
The UK’s housing stock is one of the oldest in Europe. Much of it’s been around for 100 years and, probably, will still be providing roofs over our heads in the next century!
So there’s very much to be done, billions of pounds to be spent and enormous challenges to be solved.
For instance we must reduce carbon emissions, lower or eliminate VAT on home improvements, help meet the demographic demands of an increasing population, combat fuel poverty and respect the requirements of an ageing population.
It really is a big, big task but together we can do it!
