The previous and most successful National Home Improvement Show coincided with
the publication of a very important survey carried out in conjunction with the retailers, Homebase, of over one million people in the UK. It provided a unique snapshot of the home improvement market and confirmed that more people would prefer to stay put and improve rather than pull up their roots!
Energy efficiency was fairly high on the agenda but the government’s Green Deal initiative had yet ‘to create an awareness among the public.’ It seemed particularly uncertain about renewable energy technologies.
The survey uncovered many interesting facts about homeowners’ aspirations, not least of all their attitude towards the current economic situation. Around 30% said they had slowed down their plans for home improvements, while 21% explained they had ‘delayed certain aspects.’
Some 25% were not affected by the economy while 3% said they would probably move faster now due to ‘special’ deals currently available from some retailers.
The survey concluded that the average spend on home improvements was around £9,600 and around 12% of respondents said they would save rather than improve!
The next National Home Improvement Show is said to be bigger and better than ever and will be held from 28 – 30 September 2012 in London’s Olympia. So it’s very important to get it in your diary – now!
